Each spring, Charleston, South Carolina, transforms into a vibrant hub of artistic expression during the Spoleto Festival USA. Established in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, the festival was envisioned as the American counterpart to Italy's Festival dei Due Mondi. For 17 days and nights, from May 23 to June 8, 2025, the city comes alive with over 120 performances spanning opera, theater, dance, and various music genres, including jazz and contemporary works.
Charleston's historic venues—such as the Dock Street Theatre, Charleston Gaillard Center, and the College of Charleston's Cistern Yard—provide the perfect backdrop for these performances . The festival not only showcases renowned artists but also serves as a platform for emerging talents, fostering a dynamic and inclusive arts community.
To complement the international performing arts at Spoleto Festival USA, the City of Charleston started Piccolo Spoleto to feature local performers and visual artists. Every May, Marion Square fills with tents featuring incredible artists from across the Charleston area.

KC Collins: Capturing the Essence of the Lowcountry
Among the artists featured this year is KC Collins, a celebrated painter represented by the Robert Lange Studios. Known for her evocative landscapes that encapsulate the serene beauty of the Lowcountry, Collins's work offers viewers a window into the region's unique charm. Her paintings, characterized by their luminous skies and tranquil marshes, resonate deeply with both locals and visitors.
During the festival, Collins will showcase her art in a dedicated tent at Marion Square, a central location that becomes a bustling arts market during Spoleto. This setting provides an intimate space for attendees to engage with her work and gain insight into her creative process. Collins's contributions to the festival have not gone unnoticed; she has been honored with the "Best in Spoleto" award, a testament to her talent and the emotional depth of her landscapes.
