Layers of Motion: Michelle Jader at Robert Lange Studios

Posted by Robert Lange on

This June, we’re thrilled to welcome artist Michelle Jader to Robert Lange Studios for both a new solo exhibition and a special artist residency. Jader, known for her mesmerizing figurative paintings, brings a distinctive approach that invites viewers into moments suspended in time—quite literally.

Michelle Jader paints on multiple layers of acrylic panels, a technique that gives her work a remarkable sense of movement and depth. Each translucent layer contributes to the final composition, with figures and forms built up in stages that the eye assembles as a unified whole. The result is more than a painting—it’s an experience of motion, emotion, and dimensionality. The figures seem to float, fall, or rise, often caught in moments of transformation. This visual layering mirrors the psychological layers of her subjects, making her work resonate on both a visual and emotional level.

What sets Jader apart is not only her technical innovation, but also the emotional clarity she brings to every piece. Few artists can achieve the kind of immersive depth—both physical and metaphorical—that she captures through this layered process. Each piece is a quiet exploration of vulnerability, strength, and change, rendered with softness and strength in equal measure.

Jader’s upcoming exhibition opens the first Friday of June, and will feature a new body of work created through her signature process. As part of her artist residency at Robert Lange Studios, Michelle will live and paint here at the gallery, giving visitors the rare opportunity to engage with her process up close. It’s a chance to see not only the finished layers on the wall, but the evolving ones on her easel.
