A one of a kind getaway
THE RLS RESIDENCY APARTMENT
This word-of-mouth–only residence (you must know someone special to find it) is a secluded two-bedroom retreat tucked behind a hidden door inside the gallery. With centuries-old textures, exceptional artwork, and a location in the heart of Charleston, it’s the perfect place to unwind and recharge.
For decades, this space has welcomed hundreds of artists from around the world, made possible through an extraordinary donor program and the support of the City of Charleston. Built in 1840, the 6,000-sq-ft building still features its original brick walls and time-worn wood floors. In the early 1920s, renowned local sculptor Willard Hirsch transformed what was once Robert Henry’s Warehouse into his personal studio, cementing the building’s legacy as a haven for creativity.
The apartment offers two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, a cozy social dining area with a kitchenette, and a spacious river-rock rain shower. Linens, towels, and soap are provided.
Best of all, you’ll have the entire gallery to yourself after hours. Play the piano, relax on the swing, or—our personal favorite—sip wine while taking in the art.
We hope to welcome you to Charleston soon.
