Next week, on September 18th, we are thrilled to welcome back painter Reynier Llanes for a very special occasion. The Gibbes Museum will be unveiling a recently acquired work of his that will now live in their permanent collection. To say this is an honor would be an understatement—we feel truly blessed to represent Reynier and to witness such a meaningful milestone in his career.

For those who know Reynier, his story is as powerful as his art. Born in Cuba, he immigrated to the United States at a young age and quickly established himself as a painter whose voice is both deeply personal and universally resonant. His works, often layered with symbolism, narrative, and emotional depth, explore themes of identity, resilience, and human connection. Over the years, Reynier has become part of Charleston’s artistic fabric, calling this city a second home. His connection to the Lowcountry and its community has been strong and enduring, and we are fortunate to have shared so many chapters of his journey here.
Just last year, Reynier’s work took center stage in the exhibition “Reynier Llanes: Passages” at the Gibbes Museum (May 24 – September 15, 2024). The show was warmly received and celebrated as a testament to his evolving vision as an artist. For many visitors, it was a chance to engage with his paintings on a deeper level and to experience firsthand the way his work transcends cultural and geographic boundaries.
The museum’s decision to acquire one of Reynier’s works for their permanent collection is a recognition not only of his talent, but also of the significance of his voice in contemporary art. It ensures that his perspective and creativity will inspire generations to come, right here in Charleston.

We are incredibly proud of Reynier, and we look forward to celebrating with him on the 18th as this remarkable achievement is unveiled. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do—to support artists whose vision changes the way we see the world.
