MiniFair: Where Small Works Make a Big Impression

Posted by Robert Lange on

We’re delighted to announce MiniFair, a whimsical new exhibition of small-scale paintings and sculptures by twenty of our gallery artists. Opening Friday, December 5, from 5–8 p.m. during the Charleston ArtWalk, the show invites visitors to step into a world where art, scale, and imagination collide.

Each piece in MiniFair measures no larger than ten inches—but within those inches lies an entire universe. From dreamlike scenes and intricate portraits to gilded landscapes and playful abstractions, the collection highlights just how expansive creativity can be when it’s contained in something small.

As a nod to our much-loved Mini Museum installation, this exhibition will also feature miniature people admiring the artwork, adding a touch of magic and humor to the walls. It’s an experience that blurs the line between viewer and viewed, large and small, real and imagined.

“Small paintings have a way of drawing you in,” says gallery owner Robert Lange. “They invite a kind of intimacy—you have to lean closer, slow down, and really connect. With MiniFair, we wanted to take that experience and turn it into something imaginative and joyful, something that makes people smile the moment they walk in.”

Artist Megan Aline, known for her quiet, contemplative works, describes the process beautifully: “Working small forces you to focus on every brushstroke. There’s a quietness in creating something that fits in your hand but still holds a whole world inside it. MiniFair feels like a celebration of that quiet magic.”

Fellow exhibitor Kerry Simmons, who created a series of luminous landscapes in ornate gilded frames, shares: “I love how each artist brings their own universe into such a tiny space. It’s like walking through twenty different worlds in miniature—each one personal, poetic, and complete.”

Guests are invited to enjoy wine, music, and conversation among the tiny dioramas and walls of small works. The event is free and open to the public.

MiniFair will be on view through December 19, 2025, at Robert Lange Studios, 2 Queen Street, Charleston, SC. (Note: some works may be taken early for the holidays, so the exhibition may not remain in its entirety.) All works are available for purchase, and the full collection can be previewed online HERE.

The gallery is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and by appointment.
