Looking Within

Contemporary painter Megan Aline will debut a new body of work titled Looking Within, a collection of deeply reflective paintings presented in her signature style of silhouetted figures intertwined with luminous natural landscapes. The exhibition will be on view through July at Robert Lange Studios and available to view by appointment. Yes, we are going to be by appointment in July because we are planning some construction.

Known for her evocative “inner landscape” paintings, Aline continues to explore the emotional and spiritual connection between identity and nature. Her newest works feature feminine silhouettes filled with richly layered forests, shifting light, and atmospheric textures inspired by her childhood in Maine and her ongoing fascination with memory, introspection, and personal growth.

Looking Within is about returning to the quiet places inside ourselves,” says Aline. “I think we all carry an internal landscape shaped by memory, emotion, and experience, and these paintings are an attempt to give form to that unseen world.”

Built through layers of acrylic paint and intricate masking techniques, the works balance realism with dreamlike symbolism. Trees stretch like dancers, light filters through imagined forests, and anonymous figures become vessels for reflection and transformation. Aline’s process combines meticulous craftsmanship with emotional intuition, resulting in paintings that feel both intimate and universal.

“For me, nature has always been tied to self-discovery,” Aline explains. “When I paint these forests inside the figures, it feels like I’m mapping the emotional terrain we carry within us.”

Gallery owner and artist Robert Lange believes the new series marks an exciting evolution in Aline’s work.

“Megan has created a body of work that feels both deeply personal and incredibly relatable,” says Lange. “These paintings invite viewers to slow down and reflect, and there’s something profoundly moving about the way she merges the natural world with the inner emotional life.”

The exhibition will be available for viewing through July 2026 by appointment at Robert Lange Studios, 2 Queen Street, Charleston, SC. All works are available for purchase, and the exhibition can be previewed online at www.rlsart.com.
