Robert Lange Studios (RLSart) is proud to present Feather and Fur, a solo exhibition of new work by celebrated painter Nathan Durfee, opening Friday, October 3 from 5–8 PM at 2 Queen Street, Charleston, SC. The public is warmly invited to join the artist for an evening of art, conversation, and imaginative adventure.

“Every Nathan Durfee painting is its own little world,” says gallery owner Robert Lange. “In Feather and Fur, those worlds are populated with characters who are impossible not to love. It’s joyful, clever work that reveals something new every time you look.”

Durfee describes the show as a celebration of personality, transformation, and the whimsical “what ifs” of everyday life. He said, “Animals give us this beautiful blank canvas of personality. We project our quirks, our bravery, our awkwardness onto them—and in return, they make us feel understood.”
Durfee has a working studio at the Charleston gallery where art lovers often watch him paint. It’s through these interactions with the community that he draws inspiration. He said, “The title Feather and Fur is about connection. Birds and mammals live such different lives, but in these paintings they share common goals: adventure, belonging, mischief, joy.” Durfee jokes that, “Humor is my gateway to deeper stories. If you laugh at a cat in a bird costume, you might stay long enough to wonder why it’s there, what it’s feeling, and what it’s searching for.”
