Robert Lange Studios upcoming exhibit, “Crafting Comforts,” features the work of oil painter Nathan Durfee. Durfee says of the exhibit, “This body of work honors those who craft their own paths, embracing the grit and resilience required to stay true to themselves.”
Durfee has become recognized for painting fanciful realities. Each painting is extremely unique although the same characters will often appear in multiple works. For this show Durfee said, "My paintings are starting to ground themselves a bit more. There’s less of a ‘punch line’ or narrative twist, instead rendering a moment in time that captures the life of these characters.” All are welcome at the October 4 opening from 5-8pm, where you can come see a little glimpse into these character’s lives.
Of the show title he said, “Crafting Comforts is a twist on the phrase ‘creature comforts,’ celebrating those who create their own happiness and live life on their own terms, even if it means going against the grain. I have deep respect for individuals who live with intention, recognizing the work and determination it takes to maintain such a life. This body of work honors those who craft their own paths, embracing the grit and resilience required to stay true to themselves.”
In each painting a theme emerges of creating an elaborate home of sorts. ‘Fishing With the Flock’ is a 48” x 48” oil on panel painting perhaps best illustrates what Durfee is trying to convey with this series. A person sits fishing on a small island beneath the shade of his massive part machine seagull shaped home. Durfee said, “These giant, crafted creatures in my paintings symbolize the immense effort people invest in achieving their goals. I hope viewers will reflect on how far they’ve come in life and feel inspired to embrace the journey ahead.”
Overall the exhibit is the perfect example of Nathan Durfee’s unyielding ability to consistently evolve as a painter. Gallery owner Robert Lange said, “With every stroke of their brush, Nathan transforms the canvas into a vibrant dreamscape where reality dances with imagination. His whimsical pop surrealist oil paintings invite viewers into a world where the fantastical becomes tangible and every detail tells a story that is both playful and profound.”
One collector’s comment in anticipation for the upcoming show is, “I've been following this artist's journey for years, and each new piece feels like a cherished chapter in an ever-unfolding fairy tale. The upcoming exhibit promises to be a mesmerizing exploration of whimsy and wonder that I can't wait to experience. Their work has always had a magical way of capturing the imagination, and I’m excited to see what new realms they'll transport us to this time,” said Mylo Charles from Charleston, SC said.
