Brad Kunkle Wins Beautiful Bizarre Painting Prize 2025

Posted by Robert Lange on

We’re thrilled to share the news that painter Brad Kunkle has won the 2025 Beautiful Bizarre Painting Prize—and with it, a seven-night residency with us here in Charleston. This honor feels especially fitting for Brad, whose paintings shimmer with a quiet, timeless magic. Known for his masterful use of gold and silver leaf, he creates luminous works that blur the line between the natural and the ethereal. His figures seem to live in worlds where dream and reality intermingle, surrounded by landscapes of mystery, wonder, and reverence.

Brad’s work has long stood out for its ability to captivate the viewer not only through technical excellence but also through atmosphere—paintings that feel alive, breathing, and vibrating with both myth and intimacy. The Beautiful Bizarre recognition couldn’t be more well deserved.

We also want to acknowledge Beautiful Bizarre itself. Over the years, the magazine has done an extraordinary job highlighting the very best creators across disciplines—from painting and sculpture to digital art and photography. Their awards shine a light on artists whose work pushes boundaries and inspires audiences around the globe, and we’re honored to be part of this celebration by welcoming Brad here in Charleston.

We can’t wait to host him during his residency and to see how our city’s history, beauty, and character might weave into his already luminous vision. Stay tuned for more as this exciting chapter unfolds!
