Jessica says of the show, “It is about the dichotomy between the self-empowerment and patriarchal confinement of female adornment. My paintings are influenced by my personal experience, as well as Naomi Wolf’s nonfiction book, The Beauty Myth, which illustrates the parallel increase in women’s social and financial power with the pressure to adhere to unrealistic physical standards of beauty. I am using imagery of feathered masks, tiaras, and jewelry to represent the positive and negative effects of the beauty and fashion industries on the female psyche and status.”

The gallery says, “Each layer of paint is suspended in resin to create a floating effect that is mesmerizing.” – Robert Lange, Owner, Robert Lange Studios

The collector says, “I always find it amazing to see Jessica Dunegan’s totally unique process and every distinct layer of her vibrant, vital work.” – John Molony, Charleston, SC
