Robert Lange Studios upcoming exhibit, Braving the Elements, features the work of twelve painters each making four works with the subjects earth, air, fire, and water. Each artist has manipulated these four elements to compose unique interpretations in paint. All are welcome to attend the April 4 event from 5–8PM where the artist will be on hand to answer questions. The work will hang until April 25 and can be seen daily from 11-5PM.
The classic four elements are the building blocks on which our world was created and considering not just the four elements themselves but what they represent- dry, hot, wet, and cold or solid, liquid, gaseous, and plasma- the artists were challenged to conceive of distinctive works. Some artists tackled their four pieces with more traditional interpretations where others decided to create conceptual paintings.
For example JB Boyd has created four 4” x 13” works in oil. One depicts a mountain as clouds roll by. The next painting is an empty snowfield with just the hint of a fence running through it. There is a burned out cavern filled with the remains of tree trunks and in the last piece a stream runs by as the snow thaws around it. Boyd says of the series, “For my pieces I wanted to find the moments where the elements are interacting with each other.”
One collector’s comment in anticipation for the upcoming show is, “I’ve experienced a great number of traditional landscape exhibits and can’t wait to see something slightly different.” Carrie Cooney continued, “The group shows at RLS are always something a little bit different.”
Participating artists include Robert Lange, JB Boyd, Charles Williams, KC Collins, Erik Johnson, Sergio Lopez, Adam Hall, Brett Scheifflee, Nathan Durfee, Jason Drake, Kerry Brooks, Joshua Flint and Megan Aline.
