STATEMENT : AMY LIND
Painting is a way for me to express my view of humanity, with no political
strings attached. I paint what I see, not what others or the camera
see, but an interpretation of life through my own eyes. I have been
led by my curiosity of the life that surrounds me to capture the striking
simplicity of day-to-day images and experiences. By painting these brief
moments in time, I am given the opportunity to extend their existence
and allow viewers the chance to experience, appreciate, and interpret
them.
Portrait painting has always been my greatest passion. Ever since I
was little, I have been fascinated with the amount of life a piece of
paper could exude once my pencil had drawn an eye. This idea of putting
life into something that is actually flat and motionless is a rewarding
challenge that I thoroughly enjoy.
As I have grown as an artist, I have come to really appreciate the human
form. To me, the human figure is perfectly formed. I am constantly in
awe of the infinite possibilities of shapes, textures, and emotions
that can be created as the form moves. I have also become completely
entranced by the innumerable variations of color contained in human
flesh. No two people possess the same exact shapes, colors, or unique
qualities, and I will never tire of examining the subtleties that exist
in the human figure. It is my goal to bring out these unique physical
traits and combine them with the individual’s inner character.
In doing so, I attempt to convey a sense of life and energy.
With a delicate narrative, I hope that my paintings encourage viewers
to step back and appreciate the beauty and spirit that exists in the
people they encounter everyday.
